Capstone Conservation Project – Durham, NH (2011 – 2012)
In 2010, the Town of Durham asked the Strafford Rivers Conservancy (SRC), of which Anna Boudreau was the Executive Director, to consider accepting a conservation easement on approximately 22 acres of land directly abutting a newly proposed large student housing project. According to the Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices and the SRC’s own criteria, the project, as proposed, did not meet the land trust’s criteria so the conservancy declined the easement. However, the town did hire the SRC staff to manage the project on their behalf and give guidance throughout the two year process. The project successfully closed in 2012, with the Town of Durham serving as the easement holder.
