Truslow Resource Consulting (formerly DB Truslow Associates) joined with Mettee Planning Consultants to complete the Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (PREP) Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) update. This plan focuses on pressing water quality, resource protection and land management issues that impact the watershed now and into future. It was issued in September 2010 and will guide the work of PREP over the next 10 years.
Development of the plan included:
- Nine stakeholder meetings in three theme areas
- Strategy and planning meetings with relevant department heads in NHDES, NHFG, MEDEP, MDIFW, MEDMR.
- Stakeholder process report.
- Development of issues statements, plan background materials, action plans, and resources.
Major issues for the PREP focus area are:
- Nutrient reduction and management
- Promotion and implementation of low impact development and innovative land use practices
- Restoration of shellfish beds, eelgrass beds and saltmarsh
- Buffer assessment, restoration and protection
- Land protection and management for critical habitat and species
- Adaptive management due to climate change
- Stream connectivity, dam removal and fluvial erosion control
- Instream flow and drinking water protection
