Watershed Restoration Plan for Hodgson Brook – Newington & Portsmouth, NH

This project involved preparing a watershed restoration and implementation plan through funding from USEPA 319 program.  The Hodgson Brook is a highly urbanized stream that flows from Newington and Portsmouth on the Pease International Tradeport, across the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, through residential and commercial neighborhoods to the North Mill Pond in Portsmouth.

Hodgson Brook Watershed Local Advisory Committee (LAC) first developed goals for restoration based on the water quality monitoring and background environmental documentation provided by the Environmental Quality Characterization Report prepared by Dr. Steve Jones.  Objectives and actions were developed from each of these goals over the course of several LAC meetings.  Ms. Truslow participated as a hydrologist and writer in all LAC meetings and worked closely with NHDES and committee members to develop a restoration plan that was interesting, clearly written and useful for future restoration and management activities.  An implementation plan was also developed to provide a framework for carrying out actions and measuring results.
